In 1938 Dr. R.E. Harlow, a young missionary in the Congo, became burdened by the need for a School in North America where people could gather for intensive Bible Study. As a result of this vision an Evening School was started at Toronto in 1941 and a Correspondence Course Department  was introduced the following year catering for people of every age group and spiritual maturity.

From these small beginnings has grown a work, which, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, has become the largest  Bible Based Correspondence School in the world. Scores of Missionaries and Nationals in many lands, sensing tie value of the home study method of Bible instruction, have made Emmaus Courses a vital part of their Evangelistic and Bible Teaching Ministries.

Harold Catlow introduced the Emmaus Bible School into the United Kingdom in 1951 and since that date over 750,000 courses have been distributed in the UK
